The US And UK In Debt Collection

Believe it or not, the U.S. and California are not the only sovereignties that utilize a collection agent from a collection agency to collect an outstanding balance of a first party. In the United Kingdom, the general process and methodologies used by collection agencies and collection agents are very analogous to those found in the U.S.

The basic procedure used in the United Kingdom begins when a collection agency, otherwise known as the third party, purchases a delinquent debt from retail, commercial, or financial institution, or the first party. Then, effectively, that third party relinquishes responsibility of that account and transfers it to the collection agency. Whenever collection agencies opt to buy an outstanding debt from a first party, the past-due account is almost always purchased at a discount rate. Again, just the same as it is here in the United States, once an English collection agent has received an indebted account from a first party, that collection agency may commence the process of recovering that money which is owed. Once an indebted party has paid the delinquent balance to a collection agency, then the process used by that collection agency stops and the indebted party has the debt negated.

Another difference between the United Kingdom and United States when it comes to the collection agencies and the collection agent methodologies is the fact that each respective sovereignty operates under its own particular guidelines regulating the collection process. Although both countries essentially have the same basic legislative policies, they do have some differences.
